When you least expect it, I am here to check in with what seems to be my personal record of overdues - a video from Portugal.

Portugal is easily one of the most dramatically beautiful countries in Europe (just look at the Algarve coastline alone to see exactly what I mean). My initial intention was, of course, to post a long read with stunning imagery and thoughtful in-depth captions, but a) it's been a year, and my memory <strike>but mostly my motivation</strike> has worn out; b) the internet probably doesn't need another “things to do in Lisbon” post.

So instead of a preview, here are some tags for you to start with:

Hello! This is exciting (for me at least). I haven’t written a new post in so long, but I am finally here to check in with some of my favorite memories from Spain. I know, I know, I should already be making plans for the upcoming summer and I don’t really know why it took me so long to publish these (it’s been nine months), but I finally kind of got my shit together :) So I'm going to let the photos (and the video!) speak for themselves and hope you can see through them even a fraction of what I saw and fell in love with.

Barcelona’s architecture is almost synonymous with Antoni Gaudí’s name. It’s practically illegal to go to Barcelona and not visit La Sagrada Familia. The world’s largest unfinished church is one of the most unforgettable places I’ve ever seen.

I felt so so thankful to have been reunited with my friends. Our last goodbyes made me sad because we couldn't give an answer as to when we would meet again but in a flash, we were all reunited in Valencia - the birthplace of paella and horchata, the city, where historic buildings and old markets meet futuristic science parks, vibrant nightlife and passion for street art.

The Paella

As I've already mentioned, Valencia is the birth place of paella – the famous Spanish rice dish. So we've headed to La Pepica, the famous restaurant at one end of the Playa de Malvarossa, looking for traces of Hemingway and a good meal. The whole place had an air of nostalgia about it and the walls were proudly covered with wooden framed pictures of famous personalities that have dined at La Pepica over the years. But most importantly, the paella was fantastic. My mouth still salivates at the thought of it.
MADRID

Of course, no trip to Spain would be complete without a visit to Madrid, the country’s capital. While Madrid often loses out in the minds of visitors as it doesn't have that many tourist attractions, it still has much to offer from soaking up the culture in the city's museums and galleries and feasting your eyes on the city's beautiful architecture to filling up on plates of tasty tapas.

Rule #1. Expecting everything to go perfectly on your trip is only setting yourself up to fail. And I’m definitely a testament to that. No matter how prepared you are, at some point you’re going to get lost, miss your bus, get food poisoning... But the list of travel disasters on my way to Egypt seemed never-ending.

Long story short, holding a Belarusian passport comes with its surprises. As a rule, if you are traveling to Egypt as a tourist you can get a visa when you arrive at the airport. But I got refused entrance 2 times.

First I was denied boarding in Warsaw, as it turned out I was supposed to obtain a visa from an Egyptian Embassy prior to departure. I cried my eyes out as I gradually began to realize I was going to wave my friends goodbye at the airport and go back home. But I didn't. And this is the part of the story where I say thank you to the people I'm proud to call my friends, for not letting me suffer alone and for missing the flight all together :) The next step was to to calm down. We had to rationally figure out an alternative plan, put smiles on our faces and think of how this will make a great story one day.

We ran to the Egyptian embassy in Warsaw, understanding it was almost impossible to get a visa on Friday afternoon, but still hoping for the best. And surprisingly we got things sorted out. I was lucky to get a chance to talk to the Ambassador and explain how important it was for me to go to my best friend's wedding. And he kindly agreed to help me get a visa within a couple of hours! We still had to buy new tickets, stay in Poland for 2 extra nights, which resulted in spending more than we expected (see Rule #1), and instead of going from Warsaw to Cairo, as planned, we had to fly from Katowice to Hurghada. Fun fact: we also got abandoned by the bus driver on our way from Warsaw to Katowice.

But the only thing that really mattered was that 2 days late we finally landed in Egypt, thinking the worst was behind us. 'Nothing to worry about', I was thinking to myself, 'I have my visa, I see my friends passing the passport control and waving me from the other side. Everything's good, right?' ... - Wrong.

I almost got banned from entering the country. Again. As the airport was getting empty from the lines of tourists, I was told that I could only be traveling with a travel company, whose representative had to meet me at the airport. I also had to have a tour/hotel booked, so visiting a friend wasn't an option. I spent about an hour sitting all by myself, with neither further instructions or explanations given, nor internet connection to contact my friends. I ended up paying a guy to help me get through the customs.

well that was fun

The point here is: if you want to avoid hassle and the risk of being denied boarding and loosing money, double check everything! <strike>Especially if you're a happy holder of a Belarusian passport</strike>. Praemonitus, praemunitus, kids.

That's being said, let's move on to the happy part, where I finally set my foot on the land filled with religion, architecture, monuments, and visual and spiritual richness - Egypt.

Rugged and starkly beautiful, the Sinai Peninsula has managed to cast a spell on me. Here is a short list of what I consider must-haves:

- Be creative when it comes to transportation -

Take a ride in the back of a pickup truck with your friends, dozen or so people can squeeze! It's fun.. it's dangerous, but mostly fun :) On your way back, get on a boat, a camel, or a quad bike - where else can you have so much fun getting around?

- Fall in love with a Hippie Dahab -

Unlike Sharm El-Sheikh, Dahab isn’t the nightlife hub or the top-notch resorts kind of place. Dahab is more of a laid-back and and low-rise, amazingly uncrowded and hassle-free town, where beach huts offer an affordable alternative to hotels, and smoking hashish is an acceptable recreation. Enjoy the sea, sunbathing, hiking, rock-climbing, drink Bedouin tea, or wave to Saudi Arabia - on most days you can see the Saudi Mountains on the other side of the sea!

Egypt’s Red Sea is blessed with one of the world’s healthiest reefs, it's a living aquarium, teeming with underwater life. See the Blue Hole with your own eyes! You can’t miss this 94m deep submarine sinkhole. No need to take a boat or swim far out, there's plenty to discover close to the surface.

CAIRO

As one of the largest city with nearly 20 million inhabitants, there is no way around it — Cairo is massive. Wander the busy, maze-like streets full of bustle, chaos, and perhaps more traffic than you’ve ever experienced, both during the day and the night, and you’ll find that this is a city that truly never sleeps. And the sheer amount of history in Cairo is beyond staggering. Magnificent mosques, grand European boulevards, the gorgeous Belle Époque buildings, humming markets and, of course, ancient sights – Cairo has got them all.

THE PYRAMIDS

The Pyramids of Giza - one of the most fascinating and majestic wonders that look like they jumped out of a story book from the old, old days. No doubt this is, at least in part, the reason you’ve come to Egypt. It’s hard to believe that such an amazing scenery is only minutes away from a bustling modern city like Cairo.

Aim for arriving early in the day - the mid-day heat gets too oppressive. Bring plenty of water, wear comfortable clothes and shoes and be sure to check out the Solar Boat Museum!

THE BIG DAY

Never thought I'd find myself at an Egyptian wedding. But there I was, celebrating my best friends' big day, magical, romantic and crazy. A zaffa took place, and of course we started dancing once we heard the drums. Be prepared, because even if you don't WANT to dance, YOU. WILL. DANCE. And at one point during the night you will find most of your female friends barefoot - it hurts to walk, let alone dance in high heels for 5 hours. But you just have to flick your wrist a bit, and move your hips a bit. Shik! Shak! Shok!

So while my brain and my writing skills (or lack thereof) were on hiatus from the blogosphere for 2 months, that's literally everything that's been going down: too much time spent indoors, experiencing a trial of confused identity, misguided purpose, and hopeless transition, accompanied by my undergraduate project not shaping up to be a 90-page magnum opus and me swimming in it (hoping not to drown). A quarter-life crisis at its finest. You know it for sure when a Bon Iver song comes on and you start crying. By yourself, around friends, or in the middle of a supermarket as strangers slowly usher their children away.

Anyways, my thesis defense is next week. As a means of forcing myself over the final hurdle, I visualised how amazing it would be on the ’other side’ and how relieved I would be to hand over the culmination of five years’ work. For those of you in the same boat, good luck and have fun! Below you can find some songs that will hopefully help you get through this. I'd spice it up with some new goodness from Papa Roach, but for the sensitive ears not to bleed I'm leaving it super light this time. And if you haven't yet seen the pictures of me holding ukulele and smiling on different social media, here you go with even more :)

Renting a car/getting behind the wheel all by myself for the first time in a foreign country turned to be quite a daunting experience. If, like me, you grew up with a manual, and then drove an automatic in traffic for the first time, you know what I mean. I had to remind myself to keep my left leg tucked away so I don't try to press the clutch and bash my face against the windscreen because I've accidentally stamped on the brake pedal, haha. Once I stopped stressing out, it turned out to be super easy to drive, park and manoeuvre :)

We stopped at Robbie's Marina, an authentic Florida Keys roadside attraction, with the primary purpose of feeding the massive tarpon by hand.

Behold, the most overdue of overdue photo/video diaries. I wasn't really sure how to share my photos from my trip to Chicago in a way that would do the city any kind of justice. I didn't take too many to begin with, and it was my first time visiting the city, so there was a lot of ground to cover. But I'm going to have to accept the limiting parameters of a blog and post these here for now.

Day 1

I will admit it's a total tourist move but I don’t even care – I am freaking obsessed with The Bean!

For a small fee, you can rent a bike for the day. There are bike stations all over the city making it extremely easy to check in and out. For the cost it's well worth it. I recommend biking along Lakeshore Trail - it's a stunning ride with the water on one side and the city on the other.

As we felt a bit hungry we went to do the most touristy thing of the whole Chicago trip and had lunch at Giordano’s at Navy Pier were we ordered a huge BBQ chicken pizza. Guys, if you never had a Chicago style pizza think of a solid savory cheese cake with BBQ sauce on top. It’s insane!

Millennium Park Summer Film Series was closing out with a fan favorite Chicago-made film "The Dark Knight", that transformed the streets of Chicago into the seedy world of Gotham City. What can I say: Chicagoans – great choice; movie buffs – next time you're in Chicago, bring a blanket, your favorite snacks and grab a seat under the stars on the Millennium Park lawn.

Day 2

Ask anyone what to do in Chicago, and you won’t get out of that conversation without hearing about boats, kayaks and architecture tours. They are not over-hyping this attraction. A skyline and a river view can’t be missed. Note: we booked with Kayak Chicago and were very happy with them.

One of the iconic buildings of Chicago is the Willis Tower. We couldn’t resist heading up to the Skydeck and seeing Chicago from above. Once you make it to the top, you are surrounded by tourists, souvenirs, and a really great views. I mean really, really great views.

New York seems like such a long time ago and I had every intention of getting all of my content published in a nice consistent and fluid motion, but of course, blogging life just doesn’t always go the way you plan. Incessant unsatisfied midnight editing sessions later, I am finally/provisionally content with the pictures I put together. Despite the title of this post, I was in New York for more than 24 hours, however during my recent trip to the city of all cities, we packed a whole lotta stuff into one day and I thought I’d share what we did in case you have a short but sweet trip coming up soon. So here are some memories I created with my DSLR a.k.a How To Have a Nice Day in New York, according to me.

1. Book a cute airbnb with two amazing dogs (!)
You can get a cheeky discount off your first stay by clicking here.

Meet Preston and Duke. They have been the highlight of our stay.

2. Start a day with a bagel!
Despite how late we woke and left our cosy airbnb, we made an effort to have breakfast at "Pick a Bagel". We got 7 grain + egg salad and blueberry + strawberry cream.

3. Visit one of the top art museums in NYC when you can hunker down for a while.
We chose the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), which showcase all manner of priceless pieces from renowned artists.

4. Hit the tourist spots.
Once you're done, there's still a whole lot of New York to see, from the cultural, to the underground, and every flavor of life in between.

If you're a tourist coming to New York City, chances are you're going to hit all the major tourist centers like Times Square straight away. Times Square has never really been on my list of things to see when in New York, there’s just something about being around so many tourists that put me off. But what I love about New York, there’s character in almost every corner and this one, in particular, was no exception.

5. Take a stroll on the Brooklyn Bridge.
Having visited New York City on several occasions and only experiencing the visual sight of the Brooklyn Bridge from a distance, during our recent trip we decided to change this. The views are spectacular.

6. Meet up with old friends, grab some wine and snacks and enjoy the view at Hudson River Park's piers. They call them the islands of repose in the midst of this vibrant city.

Airport life. We’ve all done it: booked the cheapest plane ticket going with the longest layover possible, just to save a few pennies. And while you’re wandering aimlessly around the airport duty-free hoping to find some inspiration on what to do next, you ask yourself why on earth you made that decision. Finding a comfortable place to sleep is the biggest challenge of all. If you’re lucky, the airport will have benches or chairs that you can spread yourself across.

We were lucky: the airport was located just half an hour away from Finland’s capital, Helsinki, with its seaside atmosphere, design district and cosy cafés. We landed, headed to the luggage storage, freshened up, grabbed the camera, bought the train tickets, and went outside to explore the city. If you happen to be in Helsinki during the Midsummer weekend, you'll notice that people have disappeared from the city. They head for their cottages and summer cabins, leaving towns and cities deserted. It was virtually empty, and roaming the streets all alone is an exceptional feeling – a must for zombie film enthusiasts.

There in Finland, they have a great attitude to cycling. The cycle tracks stretch for over 1200km in Helsinki area alone that makes it easy to access all parts of the city on two wheels, with no traffic and no pedestrians, and the landscape is amazing. We cycled for a few hours taking in lakeside scenery, the coast and fields, meeting few people and no cars at all. We made the most of our time by touring the city by bikes and we ended up in one of Helsinki’s favourite green places - Kaivopuisto - for some great 360 degree views of Helsinki and a couple of beers brewed with birch leaves.

Summer solstice is a big deal for Finns and many magical beliefs have traditionally been linked to midsummer night, the shortest night of the year. It was my first Midsummer experience in Helsinki and fortunately, the weather was nice. I wasn't prepared for celebrations and I had a lot of fun regardless. But if you decide to visit Helsinki during the Midsummer weekend, keep in mind that dressing up in a retro manner and wearing a crowns of flowers on your head will score you a few extra points.

It's that time again! In honour of final exams I've compiled a playlist of semi- study appropriate songs that are perfect for study breaks. Sitting at a desk is never a dream destination. Yet, here we are now trying to cram in a semester of skips. *I may or may not have made this playlist while procrastinating…

I have no idea if you will find these tunes calming or helpful in anyway towards your study routine but they are what I've been listening to for the past month. I've been particularly enjoying Monster Rally, which you can tell from the picture. This music is as vibrant, colourful and exotic as the tropical flowers that grace the album’s cover.

P.S. This playlist is the perfect example of how sporadic, slightly strange and ultimately varied my music taste actually is // Please shuffle
We made it to April – and here, in Minsk, that means we made it to Spring! Rarely do I plan my weekends, but at the first sign of a warm day I was on my way to grab a slice of pizza and shoot outside. Thinking of doing a playlist post in the near future to soothe half-term agitations. P.S. Any theme requests?

I swear I should've been born in California, with the gift of an awesome rock goddess voice and the ability to project emotions to the unwavering eye of the camera. I’m actually pretty sure I was misplaced. It seems California has everything and knows how to get under my skin. Driving in the warm wind and smelling the Malibu ocean, palm trees everywhere, eating gourmet food off a truck, hair being drenched by salt water and the fact that you could, in theory, go to the beach if you wanted to go – these were the times when Cali truly felt like “the easy life”, like some weird magical utopia. And in many ways, it is. I wonder how people actually make a living there? It's like living in a hazy dreamworld that’s drenched in sun. Oh, to be back...
So here's a little sunshine for those of you who haven't seen it weeks. Hope you enjoy this flashback as much as I did! I'm starting to think that posting pictures way overdue has become a habit for me. In my defence, its only been a month.

La Jolla. If you are ever visiting San Diego you definitely gotta go there to experience a classic beach vibe, along with beautiful sand and water, and see all these people swimming and snorkeling right there amongst the seals. This day in particular was so divine, I felt like the sun gods granted us with clear blue skies and warm water. I remember falling asleep on the sand as the waves rushed up my legs thinking: "this is the life".

Quick music break before I start posting leftover shoots from Southern California that have been sitting in queue for too long. If I'm being honest, the highlight of my true December playlist is still the newest Bring Me The Horizon album, that is something I can only describe as mind blowing. Something about Sykes’ voice keeps me entranced throughout *heart eyes*. So, this is my "fake" December playlist, because everyone knows my real one would include some crazy shit :-) Exam season is officially upon us. Whoever decided that wearing black sneakers when it's hot enough to fry an egg on the sidewalk was a good idea… oh wait, that was me. Well, I'm not a desert girl, my friends.
September was the time to hit the road again and grab some fresh air. Arizona – a place for rebels and risk takers! I was making movies in my head: a nice playlist, an endless road in desert, the sun shining on my face, and the anticipation of coming adventures. I have to admit right off the top that I didn't know what to expect so I just let my heart and spirit lead wherever it would take me.

So we headed to Grand Canyon, knowing there is no way we can make that in one day unless we go on a helicopter tour. What can I say? Long day, but doable. The only problem with our plan was that the Grand Canyon is not exactly the most accessible tourist attraction. It’s in the middle of nowhere in northern Arizona, and only has a couple of main highways that lead to it.
Then I discovered that the route my friends and I planned to take would have us passing right by the Hoover Dam. Even though we didn't take a tour or stick around very long, driving across the dam was pretty cool — it’s certainly not something you get to do everyday. That’s what I really love about road trips: you always see something cool and interesting while driving, and you can stop and enjoy the amazing sights as much as you want.
The drive itself was incredible, who knew the American desert could be so freaking beautiful? Our trip was kind of like a cheese sampler. Obviously you’re going to want more. And I really, really wanted to explore Arizona slowly, thoroughly. Because I think I might fall in love. Or maybe that already happened?

We ran into a wicked thunderstorm on the way (it does rain in the desert, people!) and I was super worried about getting rained out for our sunset tour, but thankfully by the time we reached our destination the rain had all gone. We first stopped off at the visitor's centre and wandered around there to get our first look at the Сanyon and do some research on what part to see.
Each viewpoint offers a slightly different angle and there really aren’t any adequate words to describe it. This is the place where the overused word “awesome” really does apply. I was amazed by the layers of red and white, speckled with the dark green of trees and shrubs, and the play of light and clouds over this ancient river-eroded canyon. Red rocks, brown rocks, big rocks, small rocks. I love it.

After the sun went down we climbed back into the car, ate some pizza, and basically drove straight back to Las Vegas with only a short gas station break on the way. I regret not allowing 2 or 3 days for the Grand Canyon. I made a classic rookie mistake: part of a longer road trip, I didn't give myself much time. And I wasn't alone. Most visitors seemed to be slowly driving the South Rim and stopping at all of the same viewpoints, taking pictures, and then dashing on to the next spot. Which is a shame because you can hike along the rim for hours and see so many different angles. If all you want to do is look over the edge, turn around and go back, you will miss out on the real enjoyment. In order to really experience what the Canyon has to offer and get away from the crowds, you’d need more than a day. Next time... Next time I want to go down to the bottom!

I have never been a typical tourist. Instead of chasing like crazy and sightseeing I always preferred pretending to be a resident of the city. And I firmly believe that this is the best way to feel the spirit and get to known better other cultures and people. Right now I'm thinking about Ventnor. Tiny avenue named Troy has turned my life upside down in pretty much every single aspect of it and it’s insane when I think I spent only 3 summer months over there. I had such a good time I almost didn't want to come home. With every morning I got more comfortable there, in my beautiful neighbourhood, two blocks from the beach, with my beautiful friends. I never wanted to leave them. It felt so right: staying up all night, drinking beer, eating chicken bacon ranch pizza, listening to stupid pop songs cross-legged on my friend's couch, or having craziest nights on the beach together. The more I see the more I'm reminded of America - from songs I hear in dressing rooms to familiar names in movies - even when those things have nothing to do with America at all. And right now all I want to do is hide myself under a huge blanket and cry myself to death with thinking about the next year coming.

Let me just tell you – I don't belong to Minsk. The biggest complaint about this city is that it is always the same. Minsk is just like a rut, the same cafes, the same neigbourhoods, the same people everywhere. I know most of the streets, I know my schedule, I know which bus I should take. Whereas the whole wide world around – that’s where real life begins, the land of unknown.
I am freaking out. I am freaking out because I see all these people being excited about university, working their tails off to get good grades and the recognition of their professor, who doesn't really care that his students' eyes aren't shining like stars, going to clubs together on Saturday and other normal things you are supposed to do when you're 20. But I just don’t feel it. Don't get me wrong. Sometimes I have this feeling that I should get my life together. I love studying. I love being introduced to new things, being a part of discussion, I love the process of learning itself. So on one hand, as a fourth-year student, currently writting an essay on financial markets, I can’t imagine myself without a degree. I want it. I know I always wanted it. But on the other hand I just want to grab a backpack and do things I won’t be able to do once I settle down and start building a career or have my never-ending responsibilities. I just want to spend nights wandering around a city I’ve never been to, talk to strangers and capture a beautiful view from some freaking rooftop. I hate how the life works. They expect you to choose who you want to be at 17; they expect you to act your age, be mature, do right things at 20. But I'm a dreamer. I always have been. I'm a dreamer and a bit of a wanderer. I'm that type of wanderer who takes great delight in leaving.

So, what have I been up to? Let’s just say I’m having the laziest, the least productive weeks ever. I’m starting the new season of Suits, I’m eating breakfast at 2 PM and drinking coffee 5 times a day.
Let me explain. A couple of months ago I finally admitted to myself that my drive to blog had long lost its vigour. It wasn't unenjoyable, but the process no longer retained any sort of creative excitement for me. I'd fallen into a slump and realized that I needed a change. Even though I still enjoy posting photos where I happen to be wearing things that I like and would wear anyway, the dress-up aspect has lost its appeal to me. After two years of having this blog, it can’t be weird that I feel like it is time for something new. But the direction I'm heading in is one where my blogging style is becoming more relaxed. And I find this refreshing. It's a more personal space for me and I'm pretty stoked.
Anyways, thank you guys for still sticking up with me. I think we all already know that I am and I probably will be horrible with posting frequently. I know I just have to disappear from time to time. I can’t avoid that. So this time with no promises. Feel free to let me know in the comments what you'd like to see more of on here, I'd love to hear what you think.
Hope you all have a lovely week wherever you are, xx V

I love Philly. This city feels almost electric. There’s so much happening, it’s almost impossible to see and do everything. Street fests, live music series, nice shopping spots and delicious food. Like any city, Philadelphia is chock-full of fun neighborhoods, each with it’s own distinct vibe. Though we spent a good amount of our time in the center of the city just wandering around on foot, enjoying the juxtaposition between the old and the new architecture, and consuming some goodies from Whole Foods, I’m positive there’s much more to do and see. One day in Philly is definitely NOT enough.

It feels like this trip was forever ago, so I thought it was about time I got off my butt and posted the pictures I got while testing out my new camera. I owe you guys a big update! I know I haven't been posting regularly on any of my social platforms lately these two weeks, and I feel pretty crappy about it. Did my last exam today and I'm beyond excited to finish this school year as have a very special trip to look forward to. I hope everyone's end of exams/semester/term/financial year went fantastically. I think we've all deserved a bit of a break. In fact, in less than 5 hours I'm flying to the US again! The bags are packed, my travel outfit is all ready to go, and I literally can't stop thinking about New York. With every subsequent trip I get more comfortable there. New York is a city for when you're young, and for iced coffee and warm subway air and being twenty. If you get it under your skin you can see it everywhere, if you really love it, it will never get away from you.

I guess I wanted to write something nice like 100 words about summer and salty lips and getting sunburnt on your shoulders... but as hours count down to my departure I thought it'd be a nice idea to share this week's playlist instead. Hope you all have a lovely week wherever you are, and take it easy.

Thursdays are slow. I'm currently enjoying the day’s third coffee cup, as my next exam is just around the corner and the quotidian pressures of academics become the prime focus of my daily routine. Not really exciting.
What is really exciting is having a very special trip to look forward to. I'm finally flying away from this never-ending circle of studying and complaining for at least two summer months right after passing my exams. So get ready kids. This summer's gonna be crazy.

As promised, here are some snaps from the beautiful city of Vienna, full of stunning architecture, highlighted by palaces, museums, theaters and churches. Vienna has that kind of stately beauty that makes your heart truly ache. It's something about a self-possessed elegance that comes from its fascinating history you can practically touch and cultural life you can almost inhale.
Unfortunately, we came to Vienna on Sunday, when everything was closed with the exception of a tiny handful of souvenir shops and bakeries in the historic center of the city. Moreover, unlike in the previous European capitals, the weather in Vienna wasn't perfect, actually it was quite cool and windy. Maybe that's the reason why I felt a little disappointed. And leaving, I realized that Vienna left me a little worried and confused on the one hand, but excited on the other hand. I’ll definitely be back and spend some time wandering the streets and getting lost.
Weekend snaps of my trip to Bratislava. I’m not exactly sure what I expected of this city and I have to say, my first impressions of Bratislava weren’t the nicest. Of course, it's completely different from how "Eurotrip" makes it out to be. I can’t believe anyone would take anything in that film seriously anyway. Although fair enough, during my stay everything seemed run down and deserted and trying to get food somewhere in town at 9pm looked a bit like a scene from Tarantino film. And frankly, why is there so much graffiti in Bratislava? Even as I continued exploring every street and corner, the graffiti haunted me on almost every turn. I agree, sometimes it can be magnificent but then other times it’s just a hot gang-related mess. Maybe I just landed in a bad area of town?

Anyways, we spent most of our time walking around the city, getting to know the streets and different neighborhoods. Some of the buildings were really showing their age, they had so much character and grandeur. Bratislava is almost entirely walkable, it’s attractive and it has an interesting history, good food, and excellent beer, as well as plenty of parks and lakes nearby. Summing up it turned out to be a quaint and chaotic city with an inspiring energy.
I don’t think I could live here for too long as it may be too quiet for me, but it's only 60 kilometers from Vienna, 60 kilometers from the border with the Czech Republic and just a short 20 minute drive from Hungary. Not a bad location at all.

On a side note, I can't help mentioning how happy I was to find myself able to read and understand a decent amount of the Slovak language! I've already mentioned that I speak Polish pretty well, and since the Polish and Slovak languages are very similar, this proved to be quite useful during my visit.

Have you been to Bratislava? Is it a place you’d be interested in visiting?
I still have a lot to show you, so see you in the next post! xx, V.

Hey folks! What are you up to this weekend?
I'm back from a wonderful little road trip that took me to three beautiful European capitals – Vienna, Bratislava and Budapest. What a joy it was to escape from Minsk at least for a couple of days just to recharge my soul with positive energy and fulfill my head with inspiration from fascinating landscapes, majestic architecture of the old town and beautiful happy people around.
So far May has been quite good to me. And while I’m still battling the post vacation blues, I’m bombing you with a picture overload from a lovely day in Budapest.

^
As we were passing through a beautiful hilly landscape somewhere in Slovakia and the new album of The Early November was playing in my headphones, I honestly felt that no one and nothing can break this feeling of 100% happiness and complete peace of mind. Sometimes we just forget how amazingly beautiful the world we live in is. Speechless.

Budapest is often called the 'Paris of the East', but what I saw was the unique atmosphere making the city so different from other european capitals. And that's what I like most about it. I love it when a city has a soul, when it’s not just a beautiful architectural ensemble or an enormous amount of historical monuments.
We arrived in the morning when the streets were teeming with life and locals were heading to their work by cars, bikes, skateboards and scooters. That was really what reminded me of Paris. You can easily meet a serious bearded man wearing an excellent suit, riding a scooter. And you know what, I think it’s cool. People, who can easily afford filling up their expensive cars with expensive gasoline, choose an active lifestyle and don’t care about what others think of them. If I had such an opportunity, I would love to rent a bike in the early morning, buy delicious pastry in Hungarian bakery and drive through every little street.

After doing a daytime sightseeing on a Danube river cruise and taking some good panoramic pictures from the lookout towers, we also tried some national food in the afternoon. You know me, I always get excited for food when I plan my travel program, haha. But seriously, Hungarian food is really good! Except the hot chili pepper sauce, which seemed too much for me.

And since the road took us 12 hours almost non-stop, even 2 hours of sleep in the hotel were highly appreciated. But I decided to give up a good sleep and reach the city center again to make some night sightseeing! Budapest illuminated at night was quite breathtaking. I went photo crazy every time we were near the river. Many of the buildings looked so much better and the surroundings, the views and the overall atmosphere made it an absolute romantic place!
But the crazy side is that when nighttime rolls around, Budapest is transformed into the most unique party scene I’ve ever seen, with students hanging out, drinking beer, smoking hookah, listening to music and kissing.

I would love to spend there more than one day, or even week, to see the city in my own a bit different way. And now I'm pretty much sure that I will come back to the capital of Hungary and tell you a completely different story.

Have you been in Budapest before? Comment and let me know your experiences!

Now I’m back into routine of daily life in Minsk for quite a long period of time as I need to pass my exams, and then some crazy journeys are going to take place! Anyways, I’m leaving you with these pics I took in Budapest and I’m halfway done with editing some photos I took in Vienna and Bratislava, so see you very soon! Have a nice evening! x, V.

Monday morning is here, and I’m ready to start a super fun and hectic week! Today I’ve continued the trend of getting up way earlier than usual. I actually hopped out of bed at 6.30 this morning, which is very unlike me. I guess that's the reason for my exhaustion after a long school day, with way too much information for my brain to handle. Anyway, I'm gonna try to get as much work as possible done as I have a little trip coming up in the end of the week! A journey like this is so needed right now, so I couldn’t be more excited. Can't wait to share this with you guys. And of course I couldn’t just leave you without some inspiration. Per usual, I spent Monday morning scrolling through Pinterest and last.fm.

PVRIS – White Noise

Rock Sound – Worship And Tributes (Full Album)***

Anberlin – Feel Good Drag (Acoustic)

Chiodos – 3 AM

A Day To Remember – Over My Head (The Fray Cover)

Panic! At The Disco – Hallelujah****

* Goddamn, American Candy is a masterpiece! With well-crafted lyrics and instrumentals, it’s exactly the springtime addition I needed. And the title track is one of the strongest songs overall. Such a sweet treat!
** Our Last Night - Minsk, April 22: On another evening in April I found myself in another queue to see one of my favorite bands – Our Last Night. I will tell you right off the bat that it’s impossible to put this energy and performance into words. After playing their two most successful covers Dark Horse and Skyfall they went back straight to what makes them my favorite band: loud guitar riffs, a bit of scream and meaningful songs. They also played their most emotional acoustic song Falling Away and even previewed a brand new song called Home, which I absolutely adore and have been listening to for hours now. The highlight of the set was by far Sunrise, when everyone put their light up and sang along, creating a pretty unique experience live. I was absolutely blown away. Their passion for music and the energy they put into the band just gave me huge inspiration. Can't wait for the new album, which is gonna be killer, and hopefully see them again this summer, but in a different location!
*** Rock Sound asked some of my favorite artists to cover some truly massive songs for their new compilation titled “Worship And Tributes”. They have You Me At Six covering Thirty Seconds To Mars, Enter Shikari's take on System Of A Down and loads more! So sick. Check it out.

**** Panic! At The Disco also surprised me when they premiered their brand new single Hallelujah, which is unlike anything they’ve done before. So powerful and inspirational. If you’re feeling down in the dumps or you need something extra to help you start your day, this is your new favorite song! God, I love them.
Greetings from my sofa. Although my immune system has been capable of keeping me flu-free year after year, on Saturday I felt the first signs of a cold and yesterday I woke up with a sore throat and a fever. There is nothing I hate more than being sick, when I'm wearing nothing but oversized t-shirts and sweatpants and even breathing hurts. But I just felt so bad about the lack of posts the last few weeks, so even though I have zero energy and overall weakness in my body, I just had to pop in and say hi! It's been cold here in Minsk. Really really cold. But the weather forecast is looking quite encouraging. More sun and higher temperatures for the next 7 days mean bare legs will happen again very soon!

Anyway, how do you like my outfit here? Here’s something you haven’t seen me in before, right? But I seriously freakin’ love this hat! Though the rest of the outfit is so basic me: chunky coat, ripped jeans and sneakers. Not sure if I've mentioned this before, but I'm crazy when it comes to sneakers and I have to say that I already have quite a wide selection of them. But there's no such thing as too many sneakers, right?!

So I’m just taking it completely easy today and crossing my fingers that I'll be back to normal by tomorrow. Luckily I have friends who bring me food and hot drinks and my studying can be done from bed. So I’ll try to be at least a little productive for the rest of the day and get my energy back up, even though I’m bedbound.

Life is so full of surprises. Ask me a year ago if I wanted to go to Moscow and I would've hands-down said "no". Moscow has always seemed to me an uncomfortable noisy place with endless traffic jams and the lack of smiling faces. The irony is that we came back just a week ago, and I already miss this wonderful city incredibly much.
Moscow has exceeded all of my expectations: beautiful streets, beautiful architecture, beautiful people. Several times I caught myself thinking that I feel like being drawn in some very familiar movie scene. Perhaps there was another reason for my overexcitement that day, but I'll tell you about it later.
We didn't have much time for pictures, as each day was full of new things to do, new meetings and activities. So I'm sharing the pictures we managed to take on our very first day in Moscow.

I love my crazy life. Honestly. Just a week ago I couldn't imagine that I would be packing my stuff and leave for Moscow tomorrow. Things are changing so quickly. Even though it seems time and energy consuming to adapt to new plans, I love living my life like this. You know me, I enjoy writing different lists and spend half of my life paying careful attention to detail. But when my plans go straight to hell (and that is exactly what happens to all of my plans), I'm finally starting to feel the real life. Things have changed. Even the way I feel about some positive and negative events happening to me has changed. It's a strange feeling when you don't know what to expect. But for the first time in my entire life I'm not afraid of what the future holds for me, and I'm sure it's gonna be something crazy!

Speaking of Moscow. It's pretty weird, but I've never been there before. Moreover, it's gonna be my first trip to Russia ever. And like I said, I didn't expect such a journey in the foreseeable future. But since I have to spend three days there, I'm gonna take the chance and do some sightseeing. I don't know what to expect, but I hope Moscow is going to impress me. Any recommendations? What should I definitely see visiting Moscow for the first time? Any interesting places? And what is more important.. where to find good food?
